Proofreading for Authors
Why do I need a proofreader?
Well written, accurate work that shows a high level of attention to detail will impress publishers and could help get your work published.
But my text editor has a spell checker.
Even with modern text editors that have tools for checking spelling and grammar, there is still plenty for a human proofreader to do. A computer cannot understand the text, and modifies the text accordingly to a rule base which cannot possibly deal with all the complexities of the English language.
How can you help me?
I will check your work for errors in spelling, punctuation, grammar. I will feel how the story flows, identify inconsistencies in structure and form as well as correct more complex errors in grammar and punctuation. It is often difficult for an author to step back from their work and identify problems in an objective manner. I will give you an honest appraisal of your work and identify ways to improve upon it.
Will you change my work?
In essence, no. I will not write anything new, but I may need to alter elements such as the layout, structure, order and tense.
How much will it cost?
Roughly £8.50 per 1,000 words depending upon the size and type of the work, deadlines, etc. Get in touch for an exact price.
How long will it take?
It does depend on the size of the work, and how much work needs doing to correct mistakes. I work quickly and am capable of working to tight deadlines.
Is my work safe with you?
Yes. All work done is confidential. I never disclose any work to a third party. We delete work upon completion, unless requested otherwise.
